Update: The speculation continues, undisturbed, without official confirmation from Sony. Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, who’s been beating the drum for the May PS Showcase for a few months, pinned the “week of May 25” window for the anticipated event. He added, “This timing on PS Showcase is appropriate so far.”
He continued, “I said ‘the week of May 25th’ because that’s probably the last week it could happen. But it could happen earlier. I just don’t want to say the week of May 21st and then people get mad when it doesn’t happen on Sunday.” “.
Grubb obviously has some sort of source to back this window up, but as mentioned earlier, Sony isn’t likely to give a date until as soon as possible.
Original article: Sprinkle more fuel on the burning PS Showcase log fire. Following up on social media speculation this weekend — in which it was suggested that Sony may have signed up for a timed exclusive to a trio of Konami classics — VGC editor Andy Robinson has attached his name to the rapidly multiplying rumours, claiming to have heard a live broadcast happening “in the usual window at Late May/early June, with things from Konami included”.
This has been the line we’ve been hearing for a long time, although the Japanese giant hasn’t confirmed anything yet. Remember, even though it hosted a series of “State of Plays” in 2022, it skipped its annual “E3-style” press conference entirely, and as a result, there are very few first-party projects announced currently. We know Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is expected in September, but even the nature of that has been kept secret since its premiere a few years ago.
There are so many games in development for the PS5 that it feels time for a proper exit party, but this remains speculation until Sony outlines an official event. Given its current engagement strategy with enthusiasts, we doubt it will announce anything until days before the show itself, so even though we’re knee-high in May now, don’t expect confirmation for at least a few more weeks.
