Barcelona won the La Liga title for the first time since the 2018-2019 season, after beating rivals Espanyol 4-2 on Sunday.
A comfortable victory over its relegation-threatened host at the RCDE Stadium means that coach Xavi Hernandez’s team is 14 points ahead of Real Madrid in second place and 16 points ahead of third-placed Atletico Madrid, with four matches remaining in the season.
Robert Lewandowski scored twice (11, 40) with Alejandro Balde (20) and Jules Conde (53) too, as Barcelona secured their 27th league win.
Javi Boadu (73) and Joselu (90 + 2) scored two goals for Espanyol before the final whistle, but it was too late for the hosts. They maintain the nineteenth place and separate from the safety zone by four points, after suffering two consecutive defeats.

Barcelona have now won La Liga 27 times – only Real Madrid have more trophies (35) – but their celebrations were short-lived after a large group of Espanyol fans invaded the pitch from behind a goal and started running towards the new goal. Crowned champion.
Visitors had to rush into the changing rooms and security guards quickly intervened, but riot police had to stand in front of the tunnel entrance to prevent supporters from entering.
Xavi: The title shows Barcelona on the right track
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez: “It’s a great feeling, a feeling of doing well.
“This is important to give the club’s project some stability. The league title shows that things have been done in the right way and we have to stay on this path.”
What then?
Barcelona will have the opportunity to celebrate winning the La Liga title in front of its fans next Saturday when it faces Real Sociedad at the Nou Camp. Kick-off is at 8 p.m.
Espanyol continue their battle for survival next Sunday when they take a trip to 11th-placed Rayo Vallecano. The start of the game is one in the afternoon.
