A young woman who was mauled to death while walking several dogs at a Surrey beauty spot earlier this year may have been killed by her pet.
Natasha Johnston, 28, was walking eight dogs on Jan. 12 when several of them turned on her in a frenzied attack.
She died from “multiple bites to the neck,” an inquest later heard.
Surrey Police confirmed that one of the dogs, believed to be an American XL Bully, belonged to Mrs Johnston.
The force confirmed that it had put the dog to sleep.
Officers continue to detain five more dogs after the veterinary forensic report, but returned two dachshunds to their owner last month.
A Surrey Police spokesperson said: “We have now received the veterinary forensic report and it has been shared with the coroner.
As a result, two dogs (both dachshunds) were returned to their owner at the end of April, and one dog that belonged to the deceased was put to sleep.
“The other five dogs remain in private kennels and we are speaking with their owners about the recommendations in the report.
“We believe the breed of dog that was put to sleep was the American Bully XL.”
Ms Johnston, from south London, died at the scene around 3pm, while another woman was treated for bite wounds at a nearby hospital.
No criminal charges have been filed before a full inquiry, which is due to be heard next month at Woking Coroner’s Court, takes place.
