Etta Wilson set the record straight after photos of her and husband Tom Hanks surfaced to show them getting into a heated exchange with a cast member at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Oscar-winning actor, 66, and his wife, Rita Wilson, 66, looked confused during the incident on the red carpet before a screening of Wes Anderson’s new film Asteroid City, in which Hanks and Wilsome star.
At one point, it appeared as if Hanks was pointing at the other man while Wilson was also seen raising his hand as if trying to interrupt what the man was saying.
Now, Wilson has taken to social media to set the record straight.
They were asking the man where he was going, says Rita Wilson

“This is called ‘I can’t hear you,'” she wrote, sharing a photo of the moment. People are screaming. What did you say? Where are we supposed to go? “
She added, “We had a great time. Go see Asteroid City!”
The other man in the photos, who has since been identified as Vincent Chapalin, shared a similar account on his social media.
In response to someone asking: “Have Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson (sic) confused with security? Explanation?”
He replied, “They just asked me if they should go back to the beginning of the carpet with the rest of the film crew winking (I’m not wishful thinking).”
