Phillip Schofield has been dropped by his agent after the TV presenter admitted to lying about having an affair with a This Morning staff member.

The news comes a week after he left the series with immediate effect amid reports of a “feud” with co-star Holly Willoughby.

His sudden departure prompted speculation from both viewers and public figures including former This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes, and former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan.

On Friday (May 26), Schofield said, “It is with great regret that, after 35 years of faultless management by YMU, I have agreed to step down from their representation with immediate effect.”

He then released a statement to the Daily Mail, explaining that he had an “unwise” but “consensual” relationship with someone who works this morning when he was married.

“In an effort to protect my former colleague, I was not honest about the relationship,” Scofield continued, saying he came forward with his story because “his recent, unrelated departure from this morning has fueled speculation and raised questions that have affected him.”

Schofield, who revealed he had officially severed ties with ITV completely, added: “For his sake, it’s important for me to be honest now.”

However, Holmes, who had previously called the couple “actors”, questioned Schofield’s wording. “ITV has decided the current situation cannot continue, and I want to do what I can to protect the show I love,” he said in the statement.

Holmes believes the lieutenant colonel has been “sacked”.
