Former Phillip Scofield co-star Holly Willoughby said it was “extremely hurt” when he found out he had lied about his relationship with a much younger man.

The presenter, who co-hosted the ITV daytime show with Schofield for 12 years, shared a candid statement on her Instagram Stories on Saturday 27 May after he admitted to having an affair with a This Morning staff member, which took place while he was still married.

“When reports of this relationship first came out, I asked Phil directly if it was true and he was told it wasn’t,” Willoughby wrote, adding, “It was very painful now to discover that this was a lie.”

Last week, it was announced that the 62-year-old had been dropped by his agent after he admitted to lying about his affair.

In Scofield’s statement to the Daily Mail shared on Friday, he explained that he had an “unwise” but “off-and-on consensual relationship with someone who works this morning.”

The presenter also revealed that he has officially cut ties with ITV completely. An ITV spokesperson said the channel was “deeply disappointed” by Schofield, and had accepted his resignation.

The news comes less than a week after he pretty much quit the show he ran alongside Holly Willoughby amid rumors of a feud between the two.

In a statement to the Daily Mail, Schofield said: “I had an on and off consensual relationship with a young colleague this morning.

“In an effort to protect my former colleague, I haven’t been honest about the relationship.”
