ITV has announced that the presenter will replace Philip Schofield as host of the British Soap Awards, following his departure from ITV.

After his initial departure from This Morning in mid-May, Scofield said he would be back hosting the British Soap Awards in a matter of weeks. However, in the wake of Scofield’s admission that he lied about having an affair with a younger colleague, he is now replaced by Jane McDonald.

ITV has ordered a review of Philip Schofield’s departure from This Morning, while the network’s bosses face questions from MPs over the scandal.

Former This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes continued to weigh in on the controversy, lashing out at Scofield as well as his former co-star, Holly Willoughby, and the ITV presenter.

Former Scofield co-host Holly Willoughby reportedly “made it clear that she was one of the people Phil and I lied to.” [has] Nothing to hide.”

The source told The Sun that Willoughby will “return to this morning as planned on Monday 5th June and continue as her professional”.

ITV has announced that Jane MacDonald will now host the British Soap Awards, following Philip Schofield’s departure from the network.

When Scofield initially announced that he would be stepping back from This Morning amid his feud with Holly Willoughby, the show host made it clear that he’d be returning on June 6 to host the series’ annual celebration.

However, one week later, Schofield, 61, quit ITV altogether because he admitted to having an affair with a young colleague on the daytime programme.

It was announced on Thursday (June 1) that singer McDonald will now host the British Soap Awards. They will broadcast on ITV on Tuesdays at 8pm.

MacDonald, 60, said: “Oh my gosh…everyone knows how much I love my soap, this year I was honored with anniversaries in Corrie, EastEnders and Emmerdale so this is just a dream come true.

“I can’t wait to see all of our amazing soap nominees and celebrate all of their hard work with them – roll on the awards, I can’t wait!”
