The UK is likely to experience its hottest day so far in 2023 on Sunday as temperatures are expected to reach around 26°C as some parts of the country could get hotter than Istanbul.
The country recorded its previous highest temperature so far this year at 25.1C in Porthmadog on Tuesday.
Meteorologists say that record could be broken on Sunday, with the dry weather expected to continue into the next week.
Saturday’s highest temperature was 23.9C, recorded in Porthmadog, and temperatures could be slightly higher on Sunday.
People can expect 24C or 25C in warmer parts of the country, said Rachel Ayers, a meteorologist from the Met Office.
According to meteorologists, some areas in the west could see a high of 26°C.
In these protected areas, a breeze through the south, especially the coasts of the English Channel, is expected to affect temperatures.
Meteorologists said that the eastern coasts are expected to be cooler than these areas.
Ayers said temperatures in those areas on Sunday could be around 15C or 16C.
Warmer interiors are expected and likely to see highs of between 18°C and 20°C, according to a meteorologist at the Met Office.
Temperatures may rise in both the north and the south.
For example, Glasgow and Bude are expected to reach 23°C this weekend while Istanbul in Turkey is expected to see a relatively cooler 22°C.
“There will be a lot of dry, nice, sunny weather over the weekend in the UK with high pressure still going, seeing some warmer temperatures and potentially seeing low temperatures in the 20s especially in the west,” said meteorologist Stephen Dixon.
“The easternmost regions have seen more prolonged cloudiness, generally in the mid or low teens, and that will continue in the eastern regions,” Mr. Dixon said.
For the rest of June, the UK’s Met Office forecast indicates that the weather is likely to continue to be dry.
“There is a chance of isolated rain, mostly over higher ground, in the early part of the period, with a small, but increasing risk of rain or showers, possibly thundery, over parts of the south and south-east of England and Wales,” the Met Office forecast from Tuesday said. to the progression of the period.
