Declan Rice addresses transfer rumours, following West Ham’s Europa League victory
West Ham United players and staff will recover from the joy of winning their first major trophy in 43 years after beating Fiorentina in the Europa League final in what proved to be an exciting night on and off the field in Prague.
Jarrod Bowen’s 89th-minute goal gave the Hammers their most memorable 2-1 victory, with famous fans such as James Corden and Danny Dyer – whose daughter, Bowen’s partner Danny – celebrating the victory. However, the match had earlier been marred when West Ham fans pelted Fiorentina captain Cristiano Biraghi with objects when he went to take a corner in the first half and left him bleeding from a cut on the back of his head.
Hammers supporters later clashed with riot police in Prague after they lit flares in celebration of the victory, with a brawl breaking out after police officers tried to confiscate a lit torch in the Old Town district of the city. Riot police stormed a set after they lit a second torch, and fans responded by pelting the officers with bottles and rockets.
Earlier in the day, Czech police said they had arrested at least 16 Fiorentina fans after they attacked West Ham supporters outside a pub, with videos circulating on social media showing chairs and fireworks.

West Ham’s reaction to winning the Europa League final – latest updates
Richard Jolly wrote that there were two men running freely in Fiorentina’s half. First Jarrod Bowen, on his way to West Ham United winning their first title in 43 years.
And then David Moyes took to the Prague stadium to celebrate, his arms stretched wide. It’s been a 25-year career, a journey that has taken him from the Car Windshield Shield to the European Conference League.
Few clubs have waited longer for the emotional release of a silverware. A few directors, either. It began as a ludicrous knockout competition for Moyes, Auto Windscreens as Preston North End, under the captaincy of a 34-year-old centre-back, faced Macclesfield in January 1998.
A quarter-century later, in the 1,097th game of the marathon managerial career, Moyes has earned such an honor he can call his own. He had said he credited Sir Alex Ferguson with the Community Shield claimed by Manchester United, and perhaps he thought there would be more glory for him at Old Trafford.
he was not there. But if Moyes is long destined to be remembered as the man misunderstood as Ferguson’s successor, he has other places in football history. Best Everton manager since Howard Kendall at Select Company. Like Ron Greenwood, like John Lyall but not like everyone else, Moyes won something with and for West Ham.

1686237613 West Ham trophy drought in dramatic style as Jarrod Bowen plays hero
Jarrod Bowen’s last-minute goal saw West Ham United end a 43-year wait for the trophy with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in the Europa League final.
The Hammers won their first piece of silverware since the 1980 FA Cup, and their first European trophy since 1965, on a historic and emotional night in Prague.
Yes, it may just be the third-tier competition in Europe, one that Tottenham, among others, treated as an unwanted distraction last season. But this is West Ham. West Ham who routinely see relegation as an occupational hazard. West Ham who created a song and dance to leave their old stadium and great enthusiasm to move into the new one. West Ham who had to go beg their former manager to save them from relegation, 18 months after they dumped him when he did.
Just nine weeks ago, that same manager watched as away fans held up a “Moyes Out” banner during a dubious 1-0 win over Fulham, which likely saved his job. Now David Moyes has written his name into West Ham folklore, joining Ron Greenwood and John Lyall as the award-winning Hammers managers. A place in next season’s Europa League meant the club qualified for Europe three times in a row, for the first time.

West Ham United fans left a Fiorentina player bleeding from the back of his head after throwing objects at him during the Europa League final.
Cristiano Biraghi was hit in the head by something thrown by West Ham when he went to take a corner kick in the first half. He appeared to be pelted with mugs of beer and a vaping pen, while the assistant referee also appeared to be beaten.
Play was paused as Biraghi received treatment from physiotherapists with blood gushing from the back of his head, though he was able to continue playing with a purple bandage around his head.
West Ham players came to the stands to plead for their fans to act and a message via the PA system urged fans to stop throwing objects on the pitch before play resumed.

1686232871 West Ham chairman confirms possible departure of Declan Rice
Speaking of a potential Declan Rice transfer, West Ham chairman David Sullivan spoke about the situation this morning. He seems pretty much resigned to letting the spell leave, after a gentleman agreed to listen to offers from other clubs, even though he still has one year and another year left on his contract.
Asked if lifting the trophy in Prague was Rice’s last act as a West Ham player, Sullivan told TalkSPORT: “I think it should be. We promised him he’d go.”
“He has his heart set on going and at the right time he has to continue and we have to get a replacement.
“We didn’t want that to happen. We offered him £200,000 a week 18 months ago and he turned it down. You can’t keep a player who doesn’t want to be there.
“I think offers will start today. Three or four clubs have shown interest, but out of respect for West Ham, while we’re still playing, you can’t make offers for players.”

1686230471 Mass brawl, vitriolic hedonism and Jarrod Bowen: How West Ham gave me the night of my life
Our guy Tom Beck was in Prague and he wrote a wonderful account of the joy, madness and disbelief that surrounded the entire event for Indy Voices.
“If you support West Ham United, it is not inaccurate to say that on the outskirts of Prague, in a stadium that looks like a Premier Inn and barely larger than a Tesco Extra down the road, everything has changed,” Tom writes.
“It wasn’t a football game so much as a turnaround. It was like finding the boring old house you’ve lived in your whole life suddenly glowed by two Bowens: Jarrod and Lawrence Llewellyn.
“If you happen to happen to anyone (well, almost anyone) devoting an frankly unwarranted amount of your time, money and emotional bandwidth to the fortunes of a football club, then you could easily go decades, even a lifetime, without ever knowing that this has always been the case.” It’s about it: travel to a European city, stand in the sun and then come back with a glass.
“Winning something. Actually winning something. Not being promoted, or avoiding relegation, or securing qualification for this or that. But getting to the end of the competition and being the only team still in it. And then, in an exactly half-full stadium, long after The other half go, raise the prize.”
