Four babies have been found alive – five weeks after the plane they were riding in crashed into a dense forest.
They were rescued by the Colombian military, not far from where the Cessna 206 crashed. Three adults on board, including the pilot, perished.
Extensive searches are conducted for children – they are 13, 9 and 4 years old, and the youngest is only 11 months old.
Officials regularly expressed confidence that they were still alive after discovering discarded fruit that the young had eaten to survive.
Rescuers also discovered improvised shelters made from jungle plants during their efforts to follow their tracks.
Colombian President Gustave Petro said: “A joy for the whole country! The four children who went missing…in the Colombian jungle have turned up alive.”
Two weeks after their disappearance, Pietro is forced to apologize after incorrectly declaring that they have been found safe and well.
