More than 2,000 people will be made redundant as Tuffnells, the Sheffield-based delivery company, enters administration.

Officials said only 128 employees would be retained.

Tuffnells has 33 warehouses across the UK, handling goods across more than 160 destinations worldwide and serving over 4,000 business customers, including Evans Cycles.

It specializes in distributing mixed shipments and handling items of irregular dimensions and weight and operates under the Big Green Parcel Machine brand.

Management was predictable. Employees were reportedly told to go home on Friday as the company prepares to enter administration.

Tavenels has been under financial pressure after being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, rising costs and competition.

Officials from Interpath Advisory were called in Monday when the company failed to secure more funding.

An official and Interpath’s general manager said deliveries have been put on hold and will not return.

“Today’s news will be especially devastating for the 2,200 dedicated Tuffnells employees,” said Rick Harrison.

“Unfortunately, with deliveries halted and no prospect of them resuming in the near term, we have had to make the majority of staff redundant.”

Harrison added that support will be provided for employees to file claims from the state’s Office of Excess Payments.

Officials also said they would try to minimize customer inconvenience.

Howard Smith said customers are being advised to close all transportation centers and warehouses “until further notice.”

“Our team will contact customers over the coming days to arrange the delivery of the packages.”
