An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale rocked Delhi and its adjoining areas on Tuesday.
According to officials, the quake occurred at 1.33 pm and had its source near the remote Gandhoh Bhalisa village in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Earthquake magnitude: 5.4, occurred on 13-06-2023, 13:33:42 IST, Latitude: 33.15 and Long: 75.82, Depth: 6 km, Location: Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, India,” the National Center for Seismology said in a statement. Tweet.
An earthquake of moderate intensity hit Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday and there are no reports of any loss or property damage from anywhere so far.
Data released by the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said that an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale occurred in Utah at 1.33pm.
The epicenter was in Doda district of Jammu division. It occurred 30 kilometers into the Earth’s crust.
“Its coordinates are 33.12 degrees north latitude and 75.98 degrees east longitude,” said officials here.
Kashmir is located in a highly sensitive and earthquake prone region.
Earthquakes have wreaked havoc here in the past.
An earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale occurred here on October 8, 2005 killing more than 80,000 people on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC). – IANS
