5 earthquakes hit Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh within 24 hours

Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh have been hit by five earthquakes in 24 hours. The first earthquake struck around 2:03 pm on June 17 at J&K’s Ramban.

The National Center of Seismology (NCS) has reported that the latest earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck Katra in Jammu and Kashmir. The earthquake occurred at about 3:50 am on June 18th. The depth of the earthquake was 11 kilometers and occurred 80 kilometers east of Katra.

In a tweet, NCS wrote: “Magnitude 4.1 earthquake, occurred on 18-06-2023, 03:50:29 IST, Latitude: 32.96 and Length: 75.79, Depth: 11 km, Location: 80 km east of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, India “.

Just an hour ago, a 4.1-magnitude earthquake jolted the Leh district of Ladakh, the NCS said. The earthquake occurred at 2:16 am and the depth was 10 km. “Earthquake magnitude: 4.1, occurred on 18-06-2023, 02:16:49 IST, Latitude: 35.85, Length: 80.08, Depth: 10km, Location: 295km NE of Leh, Ladakh,” the NCS tweeted.

Prior to that, in the late evening of June 17, earthquakes hit the Ladakh and Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. A magnitude 4.5 earthquake hit Ladakh at 9:44 pm and within the next 10 minutes the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir was hit by a magnitude 4.4 earthquake.

The National Center of Seismology (NCS) is the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring seismic activity in the country.
