Golfer Adam Hadwin is rugby tackled by security while celebrating at the Canadian Open
Rory McIlroy is in contention to win the US Open and go through to the final round and play alongside world number one Scotty Scheffler as they take on the overnight leaders, Rickie Fowler and Windham Clark, at the Los Angeles Country Club.
Former US Open champion Dustin Johnson and Olympic champion Xander Schauffele are in the chasing group looking to shoot low and blend into the mix.
McIlroy has not won a major since the 2014 PGA Championship in Valhalla, which followed his Open title at Hoylake that year. It was hard to imagine that he would go nine years without another. He didn’t quite shine in the last two weeks when he had a chance to win: He was restrained to the 54-hole lead at Monument and shot a par of 75 to make the first by four. Then last week at the Canadian Open, he was two shots behind on Sunday and shot 72 to finish with five. Will he break this trend today?
Catch up on all the action from the final round of the 123rd US Open below.

English is in trouble off a tee
We have the third set of last underway. Johnson swings in the right rough direction but English is the right way. It goes beyond the spectator stand to the food and beverage area – oh my!

Eagle Fleetwood
amazing! The seven-inch wood to the 14th green gives Fleetwood about 20 feet to his eagle… no mistaking for the Englishman and he moves up into fifth roundabout heights.
He is also under eight on the tour. Another birdie home run would see him break the record for lowest run in the history of the major leagues…

1687122196 Fowler’s return is on the brink of history
Fowler (-10), Clark (-10) – 22:30pm GMT
Last year, Ricky Fowler didn’t even compete in the US Open, and that was his downfall in the world rankings. The American has had three runner-up finishes in the majors but few could have predicted Ricky’s comeback quite like this. He broke records for the lowest first round score in US Open history and will look to cement his place in the history of this tournament with today’s victory.
His playing partner, Windham Clark, is relatively unknown when compared to those around him at the top of the leaderboard, but the 29-year-old is a recent winner on the PGA Tour and has looked quite home over the past few days. His bubbling iron to 18 yesterday reserved his spot in the final pairing and he’ll be looking to make that count over the next five hours or so.
This latest pairing begins in just under half an hour.

168,712,1773 Cantlie in the top ten
A birdie start for the American sees you top the leaderboard. It hasn’t quite happened for him in the major leagues yet, but there’s still plenty of playable rating points (and money) throughout the day for those at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Final round pins
A quick reminder of the pin locations for the day – the 3rd and 7th remain folded back. There’s a slight change to the driveable VI as well, so it’ll be one to watch out for.

McIlroy’s history with destiny
McIlroy (-9), Scheffler (-7) – 22:19pm GMT
If you told the world in 2014 that Rory McIlroy wouldn’t win another major for nine years, they would have booked you for a brain scan.
But years later, after several close calls and near misses, here we are. His chance last year at St Andrews was golden, but it was robbed by the excellent Cam Smith. Now, less than a year later, he has another golden opportunity in the LACC.
Don’t count on his co-star Scottie Scheffler, though. The American is world number one for a reason, and a late wave breakout last night put him four times back in seventh. He struggled with the bat all week but if he keeps it up he could make history of his own.
These two start in about half an hour.

Low amateur
Gordon Sargent is only 20, but he hits the ball way too far. Putting his foot down last time he inexplicably bounced off the cup meant it would be one round under par of 69.
Four is above par for the championship and the American is the lowest here at this year’s US Open.

The two-time Grand Champion had a round to forget on Friday but will be watching eagerly from his couch (I suppose). He envisions fellow American Rickie Fowler getting the job done:

Rahm inside the top ten 1687120248
A fine volley in the long 11th minute sets up another appearance for Rahm. Having missed out on a player in 10th place, this time the Spaniard made no mistake in moving up to third place in the championship and sneaking into the top ten.
