Newcastle’s women’s team will become the first professional club next season to appear in the third tier of the women’s national pyramid.
Becky Langley’s side won promotion to the FA Women’s Premier League after winning the Division One North title.
Now the decision has been taken to transform the club from a semi-professional team into a professional one with the aim of reaching the Women’s Super League.
The move will see Newcastle’s women’s team train throughout the week, with access to better facilities.
Commenting on the decision, Langley told Newcastle’s website: “We hope to be a leading light in the movement towards professionalism in the women’s game and inspire women and girls who dream of playing football.
“We’ve worked so hard to get here and I’m really excited to work with the guys as we help them be the best athletes they can be.”
Newcastle’s sporting director Dan Ashworth added: “The success of Newcastle United Women is integral to our sporting goals and we are delighted to be supporting the team’s progression by building a professional model around them.
“Beke and the players have shown incredible dedication, and the full-time switch will enable them to focus fully on their careers and the next chapter of Newcastle United Women as fully supported professionals.”
