This comes just weeks after another earthquake originating from the Boksburg area was felt in the early hours of June 10th. It had a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale.
The epicenter of the quake is in the Boksburg region, just a few kilometers outside the proprietary East Rand mine, said spokesman for the Earth Science Council Mahlatsi Mononila.
CGS confirmed that Thursday’s earthquake occurred at approximately 03:15 in south Johannesburg.
It was recorded at a magnitude of 2.1 by the South African National Seismological Network, which monitors seismic activities occurring within South Africa and in the Southern African region.
