A small earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 struck northeast Anchorage on Monday, the US Geological Survey said.

According to the USGS, the quake was registered about 12 miles south of town and about two miles south of Eagle River.

The earthquake, which was mild to moderate, was felt by more than a thousand people. However, there were no reports of injuries or any damage, the New York Post reported.

It happened at 6:47 a.m. local time and was 17.5 miles deep, according to data provided by the USGS.

Furthermore, no warnings were issued regarding the earthquake and the Anchorage Fire Department did not report any emergency calls.

Just a day ago, a 3.8-magnitude earthquake was reported on the west coast.

Alaska is among the most seismically active places in the United States. In November 2018, a magnitude 7 missile struck Anchorage, damaging infrastructure.

In 1964, a magnitude 9.2 earthquake was recorded as the strongest earthquake in the United States and the second-strongest in the world. More than 100 people were killed, followed by a tsunami that wiped out several small towns along the coast.
