On this day, 5 months ago, powerful earthquakes struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, causing massive destruction and suffering. Explore the first report on the state of the Syrian diaspora’s response in the first weeks of the disaster. More updates follow in the coming weeks!
The Activation Fund* has been awarded by the H2H Network** until August 2023, and will be implemented in partnership between DEMAC – Diaspora Emergency Action and Coordination and the Syrian NGO Alliance (SNA). SNA is a coalition of 22 local Syrian NGOs and the diaspora organization that currently provides most of the aid in northwest Syria. DEMAC is deploying a Focal Point** to support SNA operations by enhancing data collection and information management for the Syria-led humanitarian response. The focus will be on hard-to-reach areas, the impact of earthquakes on staffing of N/LNGOs, and cross-border responses.
The aim is to support the Syrian-led earthquake response and to strengthen the coordination of the Syrian National Army and existing structures. Both the Syrian diaspora and local humanitarian responders, as well as relevant groups, donors and stakeholders will benefit from enhanced data and information sharing mechanisms. The aim is to support more evidence-based programming, avoid duplication of response activities, and facilitate new collaborations between actors. This, in turn, will enhance the overall response of the population concerned.
