It looks like this move will continue with three of our riders out front for the day. Alpecin featured some recent moves as they were pleased with this combination. This is our electric opening 30 km completed and decided to break. We will now see the gap explode.

Andrey Amador (EF Education-EasyPost) made about 10 efforts, but he didn’t. He hasn’t given up yet, nor has his teammate Magnus Kurt. Commitment is needed to bridge that gap, which now stands at 23 seconds.

Van Aert didn’t play any part in the race yesterday, but he’s looking forward to today’s finale as the one he wants. Will Jumbo control the break for him?

The leading trio had built up a lead of about 10 seconds with the peloton still full of riders who weren’t happy to lose them. Wright drilled another drill as did Pedersen, but they’ll need more than one and two to commit if they want to close the gap.

Is this a tractor going into a break? Tim Declercq (Soudal-QuickStep) is leading at the moment as Kirsch kicks off to try and make it up front. Anthony Delaplace (Arkéa-Samsic) and Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies) are the only ones with Declercq at the moment.
Unfortunately, Lutsenko ran into a mechanical problem after his best effort to get to the break.
2023-07-08T11:05:20.275Z
Torstein Træen (Uno-X) crashed over a barrier in the middle of the road and this was his second crash of the race after hitting the roof in the Grand Basque Country. I hope the Norwegian can get back together.
2023-07-08 T11:04:05.480Z
Alexey Lutsenko (Astana Qazaqstan) was very active at the front of the race. Alberto Bettiol (EF Education-EasyPost) had a mechanical problem at the back of the pack and is back in the peloton now.
2023-07-08 T11:02:41.290Z
British National Champion Fred Wright (Victorious Bahrain) is trying to get his best in today’s break, but he doesn’t like the sight of Pedersen out there as the Dane has bettered him on a Tour de France breakaway before. Stage 13 of the 2022 race.
2023-07-08 T11:00:38.246Z
The average speed to date is 54 km / h.

Here’s a look back at the pre-stage jersey wearers from left to right: Philipsen in green, Tadej Pogačar (UAE Emirates Team) in white, Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) in yellow, Neilson Powless (EF Education-Easy-Post) in Polka Dots and Simon Guglielmi (Arkéa-Samsic) with the Golden Fighting Race number on the back.

It hasn’t broken out yet, but the peloton certainly isn’t easing up. The fight is still on as many teams are still trying to split it up front in a large enough group to make it happen.

We have the next wave of attacks coming now. There is a tailwind today so we have to run at a good rate of knots for the full 200km of racing.
2023-07-08 T10:49:59.958Z
Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) is right up front fighting for this breakaway move. If he made such a move, anyone with him should be very concerned. It seems like all of the sprinters’ teams let the riders try to get into the move. Ben Turner (Ineos Grenadiers) is also good in this fight alongside veteran Edvald Boasson-Hagen (TotalEnergies)

Soudal-Quick Step clearly wants to get into this with any of its riders after an uncharacteristically disappointing first seven stages in the Tour.
2023-07-08 T10:46:10.675Z
There’s a lot of quality interested in this break with Alex Kirsch (Lidl-Trek) up front with Mathieu Burgaudeau (TotalEnergies) too. This fight may go on for a long time before the rubber settles.
2023-07-08 T10:44:54.341Z
Right from the gun, the battle for the break begins. It seems that every team is interested in participating in this move. Tour of Flanders winner Kasper Asgren (Soudal-Quick Step) and former world champion, Rui Costa (Inmarché-Circus-Wanty) were the first to bite, and certainly won’t be the last to try to get into that break.

The eighth stage of the 2023 Tour de France begins! We could see an even fiercer battle for the break today despite the last few stages being flat and hills barely seeing interest with decks to match. We had a slight delay on km0 with a puncture in no-man’s-land by Laurent Pichon (Arkéa-Samsic).

The eighth stage of the 2023 Tour de France begins! We will, of course, have a period of neutral riding during départ fictif before the flag is waved and the race proper begins.

It’s another hot day on the tour with temperatures over 30 degrees for the start in Libourne. It will be a tough day for anyone entering the break in our 200km test.

The riders are just completing the team login and presentation processes before today’s race. Take a look below at the profile of Stage 8 showing a flat, open slash at 120km, before ripples start to build quickly before our strong finish in Limoges.
Will any of the top runners survive? Or will it be a day to fight for victory?

A very smiling Cavendish completes his pre-race interviews after his disappointing loss yesterday. A mechanical interfered with his ability to sprint fully on stage 7 as Philipsen outpaced him in the last 100m to seal the victory.
2023-07-08T09:59:28.970Z
Could today be Biniam Girmay (Inmarché-Circus-Wanty)’s chance to make history? He was close yesterday and showed he was on the verge of victory even with stage winner Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin Dekonink), pushing him hard off the wheel of Mark Cavendish (Astana Kazakhstan) on a run to the line.

We are less than 45 minutes away from the impartial start in Libourne at 12:30 CEST before the flag is dropped and the race begins at 12:45 CEST. The last time the Tour de France stage started in 2021 was with a time trial won by Wout Van Aert (Jumbo-Visma).
On this occasion, it should be a day for the more consistent sprinters with an uphill finish in Limoges, but Van Aert could remain one of the favorites for the day.
2023-07-08T09:46:58.649Z
Today’s stage is the second longest in this year’s Tour with a distance of 200.7km from Libourne to Limoges as we head into the first Tour de France weekend of all time.
