Twin earthquakes rock Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir; No damage was reported

Earthquakes in J&K: Two earthquakes rocked the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning. According to the National Center for Seismology, the first quake occurred at 5.38 am and measured 4.9 on the Richter scale. On the other hand, officials said there were no immediate reports of any damage.

The epicenter was said to be located 10 km below the earth’s surface in the Doda district. The commission said the accident occurred at 33.15 degrees north latitude and 75.68 degrees east longitude. “Magnitude 4.9 earthquake, occurred on 10-07-2023, 05:38:54 IST, Latitude: 33.15 and Length: 75.68, Depth: 10 km, Area: Doda, Jammu and Kashmir (sic),” Twitter.

The second earthquake

The second quake occurred at around 5:43 a.m. and measured 3.6 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was 8 km below the surface of the earth. It occurred at 33.15 degrees north latitude and 75.70 degrees east longitude, from Doda district.

Duda has experienced several tremors in the past month

According to officials, Doda has been hit by 12 tremors of varying intensity since June this year. A 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck the region on June 13, causing cracks in dozens of buildings, including homes.

Earlier on June 14, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck the town of Katra in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the National Center of Seismology, the quake occurred at 2:20 at a depth of 10 km, 81 km ini from Katra.

And the day before on June 13, Delhi-NCR and parts of North India felt earthquake in Delhi region and parts of North India. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale occurred 30 kilometers southeast of Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir. The tremors were felt for about 20 seconds.
