Earthquakes vs. Sounders, updates: earthquakes add seconds on golazo

[ad_1]

Earthquakes 2, votes 0: Miguel Traucco hit a full volley from about 22 yards from a corner to give the Earthquakes a deserved lead.

Earthquakes 1, Votes 0: Cristian Espinosa converted from the penalty spot after Jeremy Ibobisi was brought down in the penalty area by Yeimar.

LINEUPS: Brian Schmetzer has picked up a relatively limited rotation even though he played Saturday with 9 of the 11 starters. The only line-up changes are Cody Baker for Alex Roldan and Heber for Raul Ruidiaz.

After their first straight win in over three months, the Seattle Sounders will try to continue that momentum in their midweek match against the San Jose Earthquakes. To do that, they’ll need to pick up their first win of the season’s short break.

In their previous six games played on four rest days or less, the Sounders went 0-3-3. This is in stark contrast to their record of 10-4-2 in matches on a full week off.

Although Brian Schmetzer has hinted that he hopes to use a limited rotation, at least some changes will have to be made due to Alex Roldan’s exit from heavy international minutes and several other players under minute restrictions.

The Sounders have gone 9-3-7 against the Earthquakes since 2015, but haven’t won any of their previous three meetings. The Earthquakes are trying to win their second straight game against the Sounders for the first time since the start of this stretch. The Earthquakes entered this game on a five-game winless streak (0-2-3) after a tie against LAFC on Saturday. The Earthquakes got it even though goalkeeper Daniel was shown a red card in the 56th minute. The Sounders improved to 2-6-0 on first conceding after coming from behind twice to beat the Whitecaps 3-2 on Saturday. Today’s match will determine the winner of the 2023 Heritage Cup. The Earthquakes won the first meeting 1-0 and are the defending champions.
