Two Just Stop Oil protesters took to the stage during the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.

The environmental group wrote on Twitter: “The two fired confetti cannons and sounded air horns, demanding that the UK government immediately halt all new oil and gas approvals and licenses.

“They tried to address the public before they were forcibly removed.”

Footage on social media showed the two being booed when they were removed from the stage within moments of unfurling orange banners.

The accident occurred during the first night of the Proms.

Just Stop Oil wants the government to stop licensing all new oil, gas and coal projects and has tried to disrupt several high-profile events to highlight its cause.

Confetti was thrown at Wimbledon last week, while England’s Jonny Bairstow carried a protester during the Ashes’ pitch invasion in June.

Orange powder was also thrown onto a table at the World Snooker Championships in April, while the Chelsea Flower Show was targeted a month later.

Two members of the group were jailed for more than two-and-a-half years in April after climbing the bridge at Dartford Crossing last year.

New powers to crack down on activists took effect this month.

It gives police new powers to move inanimate protests, such as those who attach themselves to objects or sit in the way.
