There are a number of goals mentioned over the summer and especially the last 24 hours, and although Aurelien Tchouameni’s credentials make him an ideal substitute, it seems increasingly likely that he won’t be him.

If preventing Liverpool from winning the Champions League last year wasn’t hurt enough, Real Madrid dealt a transfer blow to their rivals by signing key midfield target Tchoameni, snapping up the then Monaco player for £85m.

However, the Frenchman often found himself a regular starter from the bench in his first season at the Santiago Bernabeu. Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Eduardo Camavinga and Fede Valverde have all proven to be tenacious clients in Los Blancos’ starting line-up. And of course, Real Madrid have now signed another long-term Liverpool target, Jude Bellingham.

It has sparked new hope among Reds fans that Tchuameni may in fact complete the move to Anfield many believed would materialize 12 months ago. However, there are two reasons that automatically put an end to such wishes.

“Let me say, the message is very clear from Real Madrid – they want to keep the player,” transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano explained via YouTube. “They trust Tshwamini with the club’s present and future, so it won’t be easy to bring Tshwamini to English football. At the moment, it looks very complicated.

“Also, Carlo Ancelotti was very clear with the player. He told him that he wanted Tchoameni to stay at Real Madrid and be an important player for Real Madrid.”

Secondly, Liverpool fans have spotted a hint directly from the player himself indicating that Liverpool is not in his plans.

There was a post on Twitter from a Real Madrid fan account, which translated into English read: “Chuamini is not for sale. @FabrizioRomano do you understand? @Liverpool.”

It doesn’t mean anything on its own, but when seen in the publicly visible list of tweets on Tchwamini’s official profile, it did on Friday.
