Trump thought Biden would be sabotaged and would replace him as the 2020 Democratic Party nominee. Trump firmly believed in the conspiracy theory that Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama would take over. Michael Bender of the Wall Street Journal talks about the episode in his upcoming book. Former President Donald Trump believed a conspiracy theory that Democratic Party leaders would sabotage incumbent President Joe Biden at the 2020 convention and be replaced by Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama, according to a book to be released by Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender.

The last nugget of the book, titled “Honestly, We Won This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost,” was published Monday in Vanity Fair.

In late April 2020, when all of Biden’s opponents dropped out of the race, Trump agreed to lie that Democratic officials would replace Biden, whom Trump referred to as “mentally retarded,” Clinton or Obama, Bender wrote.

He wrote that the idea apparently originated from former Clinton White House adviser Dick Morris, who was informally advising Trump at the time.

Trump assumed that Democrats “will realize يدرك [Biden is] Old, and they will give it to someone else. They’ll give it to Hillary, or they’ll give it to Michelle Obama.”

The plot, according to Bender, prompted Trump to back down from going after Biden because he feared that early and sustained attacks from the Trump camp would weaken Biden so much that Democrats would replace him with another candidate.

Ultimately, Trump’s former chief pollster Tony Fabrizio was forced to dismiss the former president in a memo outlining how the mechanics of the nomination process would prevent a last-minute replacement of Biden.

“The pollster aims to disprove the theory by outlining the remainder of the Democratic primaries, where Biden had no significant contender, and delegate math to secure the nomination,” Bender wrote. “Biden will have enough delegates to secure the nomination in just three weeks, and it would be mathematically impossible to steal it in four weeks,” Fabrizio explained.

“Honestly, We Won This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost” is published by Twelve Books and will be released on August 10.
