Arizona residents don’t have to prepare for almost any natural disasters in the desert, but have those disasters been influential in the past? earthquakes.
The largest earthquake in recorded history occurred in Arizona in 1887, when a 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Petiachi Fault, near Arizona’s border with Mexico. More recently, there have been earthquakes of at least magnitude 5.0 in 1976 at Prescott, 1993 near the Grand Canyon, 2005 near Holbrook and 2014 near Duncan.
While these earthquakes aren’t as big as our California neighbors might get, it’s still important to be prepared for them, just in case.
