Maya Wiley, the Democratic candidate for mayor of New York City, has called for a $1 billion cut to the New York Police Department’s funding, even when she enjoys private security in her luxury home, according to the New York Post.
According to the report, Willy’s partner Harlan Mandel paid the Prospect Park South Charitable Trust to patrol the surrounding area outside their home without her knowledge. The couple live in a historic home valued at about $2.7 million in an area of Brooklyn where most major crime rates have fallen in the past year, even as violent crime rates have risen in other parts of the city.

Private Security is reportedly funded by about half of the 200 families in the Wiley neighborhood. A neighbor, David Langdon, told the newspaper that the extra security gives residents, especially the elderly, peace of mind.
He told the newspaper that amid the escalation of violence in the summer of 2020, even those who do not contribute to private security are convinced.
“At the height of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ issue in the summer, there was a whole movement going on to try to stop funding, and people who weren’t even involved were saying, ‘We’re not doing this,'” Langdon told the newspaper.

Wiley is competing against his opponent, Eric Adams, who is also a Democrat. However, Adams supports the police reform agenda rather than calls to stop funding.
Neither Adams nor Wiley campaigns responded to Fox News requests for comment.
