Director Amy Horowitz — after a video expedition impersonating a worker in the fictitious group American Friends of Hamas and persuading several Portland State University students to donate to the destruction of Israel — set his sights on New York City and asked a person vaccinated against COVID-19 why they still wear masks in the outside.
What did they say?
One of the women replied, “It feels strange not to.”
Another replied, “I absolutely love it. I’m used to it. I don’t mind wearing it.”
One told Horowitz that he forgot he was wearing a mask while another masked one took what seemed like forever to answer the question – and then, perhaps wisely, answered “No comment.”
Another woman responded to Horowitz that although she’s vaccinated and out, she feels compelled to stay convincing: “I feel I should wear it. I don’t know why, I just want to wear it.”
However, another woman said, since her friends are still wearing masks she thinks she should, too.
Another woman admitted, “I feel like I’m not going to take off my mask until everyone else does.”
“There are a lot of concerns about taking off the mask, you know, for the first time…it’s like social anxiety at this point,” a man in a tank top in pre-summer warmth told Horowitz.
Another man said his desire was “to protect others, there is still a risk whatever” and that continuing to wear a mask “is a visual example”. He added that continuing to wear a mask was “a kind of protest” and that “I shouldn’t have the privilege of not wearing a mask.”
Furthermore, a woman who was not only infected with COVID-19 and then vaccinated twice told Horowitz that her desire to continue wearing the mask stems from being “so angry at people who haven’t worn a mask all year. It’s like the ‘I still care’ show.”
