CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Cleveland Clinic recently studied the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine among people who have had the virus and those who haven’t.
The study found that anyone who had previously tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection did not get additional benefits from the vaccine, suggesting that vaccines should be given priority to people who did not become infected.

The clinic says this research provides insight into how the body’s immune system protects once a COVID-19 infection is confirmed.
During the study of 52,238 Cleveland Clinic employees, the clinic says, “No single case of SARS-CoV-2 infection was observed in previously infected participants with or without vaccination.”
The clinic still recommends that anyone who can get the vaccine should do.

The Cleveland Clinic tells FOX 8, “We don’t know how long it will protect the immune system from reinfection or protect against variants. We still recommend those who qualify to receive the vaccine.”
The statement goes on to say, “These data can guide vaccination efforts where vaccine supplies are in short supply and in areas where vaccine supplies are limited.”
