Tesla raises prices ahead of Model S delivery date.

Tesla has raised the price of its high-performance “Plaid” Model S ahead of the first deliveries, scheduled for a live event on Thursday, June 10.

Tesla was previously priced at $119,990, today it raised the price by $10,000 to $129,990. The base car price remained unchanged at $79,990. Tesla’s Model Y also got a price increase.

The Model S modification follows a recent decision by Tesla CEO Elon Musk to cancel the upcoming “Plaid+,” a high-performance trim originally expected to be introduced in late 2021, but was recently pushed to mid-2022 before cancellation.

“Plaid+ has been canceled. No need, because Plaid is so good,” Musk wrote over the weekend.

Oddly enough, Tesla still lists the “Blade” Model X at $119,990 – $10,000 cheaper than the comparable Model S. As a larger car, the Model X has historically been more expensive than the Model S. This is evident in the base’s “Long Range rims per vehicle,” with the Model X starting at $89,990 compared to the Model S at $79,990.

While deliveries of the Model S will begin on Thursday, Tesla currently expects the first delivery of the new Model X in August. Customers watching the Model X “Plaid” might be wise to consider placing an order before another round of price adjustments, which is common for Tesla this year.

Tesla today also increased the base price of the Model Y by $500. The “Long Range” version now starts at $52,490, up from $51,990. The move represents the fifth price increase on the base Model Y in the second quarter alone. The Y Q2 started at $49,990.
