DETROIT — The number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in Michigan rose to 891,615 as of Thursday, including 19,479 deaths, state officials reported.
Thursday’s update includes a total of 301 new cases and 40 additional deaths, including 28 from a review of vital records. On Wednesday, the state announced a total of 891,314 cases and 19,439 deaths.
Testing was flat about 30,000 diagnostic tests reported per day on average, with a 7-day positive rate of less than 3% as of Thursday, the lowest in several weeks. The number of hospital admissions has decreased over the past several weeks.
The state’s 7-day moving average of daily cases was 330 on Wednesday — the lowest level since July 2020. The 7-day average of deaths was 33 on Wednesday. The state’s death rate is 2.2%. The country also reported “active cases,” which on Wednesday were listed at 34,000.

Michigan has reported more than 8.4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered as of Wednesday, with 59.9% of the +16 population having received at least one dose while 50% of the population over 16 is considered fully vaccinated.
According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 33.3 million cases have been reported in the United States, with more than 597,300 deaths reported from the virus. Globally, more than 2.1 billion doses of vaccine have been administered, including more than 295 million doses in the United States alone.

Worldwide, more than 173 million people have been confirmed infected and more than 3.7 million have died, according to Johns Hopkins University. The real numbers are certainly much higher, due to limited testing, the different ways states count the dead, and deliberate under-reporting by some governments.
