Kate Middleton proves that she’s not exactly surprised when it comes to answering questions about the royal family’s feud after putting her on the spot on Friday during an educational roundtable. If we were Queen Elizabeth, we would take note of the Duchess of Cambridge’s media skills – she might be the royal family’s secret weapon.
NBC reporter Andrea Mitchell posed the question to the uproar of everyone, “Do you have any wishes for your new niece, Lillibit?” Before we move on to Kate’s response, let’s take a look at what happened at the moment. Mitchell, as a journalist, has a responsibility to bring up the hot topics of the moment when it comes to members of the royal family. Sure, the educational roundtable might not be the ideal time to ask, but she had a chance and she jumped on it—and now, we’re all talking about it. Well done. We also know that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge sent their best wishes after the birth of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter, but that was a statement. So Mitchell ended up getting a great soundtrack where we can see Kate’s full reaction to Lillipet – and what an answer.

The Duchess’ face softens instantly and she pronounces “Awwww”. Immediately, you draw us into what you’re going to say next. “I wish her all the best,” she continued, gesticulating warmly with her arms. “I can’t wait to meet her. We haven’t met her yet, so hopefully soon.” This could have been an awkward moment given the nature of the ongoing family feud, but Kate handled the moment with complete grace — and for Mitchell, it was a great clip to get back into the newsroom (even if you pop the question in the middle of an educational press conference).

There are always reports that Kate is the big go-between between Prince William and Prince Harry, but we don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors. What we do know is that she is a great means of communication and as a prominent royal member, she is an asset to the Palace. There is nothing that will disturb her plumage – not even a family feud.
