NEILAND, CA (AFP) – A 4.6-magnitude earthquake hit southern California Friday night but no damage or injuries were reported.

The earthquake occurred at 9:39 p.m. a few miles from the town of Nyland in Imperial County near the Salton Sea, according to preliminary data from the US Geological Survey.

The earthquake was preceded and followed by a series of earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or higher, including a quake of magnitude 4.1 that occurred about 10 minutes after the larger earthquake.

The quakes occurred in the same area as Saturday’s 5.3-magnitude quake.
