Chrissy Teigen broke her month-long silence on social media to apologize for trolling and bullying young women on Twitter in the past.

In a Medium post published on Monday, Teigen wrote, “You were a dwarf, stop. And I’m so sorry.”

Teigen, the model-turned-cookbook author and social media celebrity, stopped tweeting and Instagram last month, after TV personality Courtney Stodden recently accused Teigen of harassing and bullying them on Twitter about 10 years ago.

Stodden, who is not bi, resurfaced on old tweets and direct messages from Teigen in which she asked the 16-year-old to kill herself and name her.

Stodden, who was cruelly ridiculed and shamed by the public and the media when they married 50-year-old actor Doug Hutchison as a teenager in 2011, has said in interviews and on social media that Teigen will “send me a personal message and tell me that. Kill Myself Stuff like, “I can’t wait to die.”

“She sent me many different tweets,” Stodden said. “Private DMs, even a couple of years ago. It’s very damaging when you have someone like Chrissy Teigen bully the kids.”

In a series of tweets on May 12, Teigen apologized to Stodden, saying, “I’m terrified and sad for what I once was. I was an insecure, attention-seeking troll.”

She remained silent until her post on Medium on Monday, which expanded on her Twitter apology and acknowledgment that her previous attention-seeking behavior on social media was ruthless and immature.

“There is simply no excuse for my past horrific tweets,” Teigen wrote. “My goals weren’t worthy of them. Nobody does that. A lot of them needed sympathy, kindness, understanding and support, not my meanness masquerading as some sort of casual humor. I was a midget, full-on pause. And I’m sorry.”

Teigen said she was in the process of reaching out privately to people she had insulted in the past. She said she initially started using social media to “attack some celebrities”.

“If there was a heap of pop culture, I took to Twitter to try to get attention and show what I thought at the time was rude, clever, harmless banter. I thought it would make me calm and expressive if I was mocked at celebrities.”

“Indeed, I was insecure, immature and in a world where I thought I needed to impress strangers in order to be accepted,” Teigen said, adding that she now cringes when faced with her ex’s words.

“Not only was I attacking some random avatars, but hurting young women – some of whom are still girls – with feelings. How can I not stop and think about that?” She said.

Teigen said she does not seek sympathy and there is no justification for her behavior.

“I’m not a victim here,” she said, but added that she was “no longer the one who wrote those terrible things” after getting married, having children and attending therapy.

She said she would take more time to focus on her family and herself.

“We are all more of our worst moments,” Teigen wrote. “I will not ask for your forgiveness, only your patience and forgiveness. I ask that you allow me, as I promise to allow you, to own up to the mistakes of the past and give me the opportunity to seek self-improvement and change.”
