Former President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he will visit the US-Mexico border region with Texas Governor Greg Abbott at the end of this month to draw attention to what he called a “serious and willful dereliction of duty” by his successor.
“The Biden administration inherited from me the strongest, safest, and most secure border in United States history, and in just a matter of weeks has turned it into the worst border crisis in United States history,” Trump said in a lengthy statement. “It is an undiluted disaster area.”
The announcement comes days after US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released statistics showing that more than 180,000 illegal immigrants were stopped at the border in May, the first time that number has been exceeded in a month since April 2000.
We have moved from holding and ejecting to arresting and releasing. We have gone from border security that was the envy of the world to lawless borders that are now pathetic around the world,” Trump’s statement continued.
Biden and Harris have handed control of our borders to gangs, criminals, and wolves. Drug dealers, MS-13 gang members, people smugglers, sex traffickers and criminal elements of the world are now at liberty [sic]. Hospitals and schools are being crushed and public health is being sacrificed in the service of a radical left-wing anti-border agenda.”

Trump went on to call on Biden and Harris not to visit the border region since taking office in January, echoing criticism from other Republican lawmakers.
The 45th president said, “Brave border officers and brave Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers have been unlawfully prevented from doing their jobs.” “Our nation is now a giant sanctuary city where dangerous criminals are interrupted and released within the United States on a daily basis… I hope my visit will shine light on these crimes against our nation – and show the wonderful people at ICE and the Border Patrol they have our unwavering support.”
Early this month, fellow Republican Abbott issued a declaration of disaster for 34 counties along or near the border and attacked White House policies, which he said have “paved the way for dangerous gangs and gangs, human traffickers, and deadly drugs like fentanyl pouring into our communities.”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said he would take additional money to complete the border wall.
Last week, Abbott announced a series of measures aimed at stemming the flow of illegal immigration into the Lone Star state – including his ambition to build a border wall. The governor also announced that anyone who crosses the border into Texas illegally will be arrested and imprisoned.
In an interview published Tuesday, Abbott announced that he would accept public funds to help pay for the wall’s construction.
“When I make the announcement later this week, I will also provide a link that you can click and go to,” Abbott told the Ruthless podcast. “For every person in the United States — really every person in the entire world — who wants to help Texas build the border wall, there’s going to be a place out there where they can contribute.”

Abbott promised that the fund accepting border wall donations would be “under the supervision of the state of Texas in the governor’s office” and pledged that “everyone will know every penny that goes in, every penny that goes out, but the sole purpose of that money is to build the border wall.”
