Fashion designer Michael Costello has responded to Leona Lewis’ allegations of bullying against him, calling the timing of the accusations “weird” amid his recent allegations of bullying against Chrissy Teigen.
“I’ve always been a fan of Leona Lewis and she’s always adored me. Her team has consistently requested our dress from 2013 until now,” Costello told Page Six Style in a statement on Wednesday.
He added, “It’s strange how her attitude toward me changed once I spoke honestly about Chrissy Teigen and others trying to blacklist me.”
The “Bleeding Love” singer, 36, took to Instagram on Tuesday to accuse the “Project Runway” designer of body defamation and her refusal to make a custom dress for a charity fashion show in 2014.
In a long series of stories on Instagram, she wrote: “When I got to my dress I was so embarrassed and uncomfortable that the dress was a sample size and it was clear that he/his team didn’t want to change it to fit.”
Leona Lewis, pictured here in the front row at the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection fashion show in 2014, claimed Michael Costello was supposed to wear it on the runway — but left it “insulted” to watch from the audience instead.
“This came as a complete surprise because weeks ago I was told that they would make the dress fit me. At the next party, the night before the show, with absolutely no explanation, Michael refused to come.” “He didn’t want to dress me anymore and ditch his obligations to me and the show made me realize so well that I wasn’t the kind of body to be.”
Costello claims, however, that the accident was due to time constraints rather than a refusal to work with Lewis.
Michael Costello responds to Leona Lewis’ accusations of bullying on his Instagram Stories
Costello told Page Six Style that he was “extremely excited” to be asked to dress as Louis at the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection show, which was scheduled for February 6, 2014, just a day before Costello’s own February 3 fashion show. 7. He says the request was received by Lewis’s representative on January 30th.
“Incidentally, I had made a set of red silhouettes, so I thought it would be ideal if I loaned one of my artworks to charity and then returned it in time for my presentation,” he said in the statement.
“Unfortunately, Leona didn’t succeed in any of the red options. There was no way for me to make it an alternative because I was and am still in Los Angeles,” Costello said. If we had it, we could have made something custom for Leona without a doubt.”
He added, “It wasn’t personal about Leona. The plan simply didn’t work out the way we intended. I always offered to make something customized and special just for her. I’m always here for her.”
Earlier this week, Costello Teigen and fashion designer Monica Rose accused him of severe bullying and blacklisted him over an allegedly racially insulting Instagram comment.
“I saw no benefit to living,” Costello wrote. “There was no way I could escape being the target of powerful elites in Hollywood.”
