NFL players who are not immune will have a much tougher season under the new rules

The NFL and NFLPA have issued Covid-19 guidelines to players ahead of the 2021 season, and life will be very different for players who decide not to get vaccinated, than for those who do.

The joint agreement between the league and the union, which was sent to teams this week, details how players are allowed to work if they receive the vaccine compared to those who do not. Here is the full list of restrictions players will adopt this season.

NFL Covid Restrictions Vaccinated Players Unvaccinated Players Vaccinated Players. Unvaccinated players will not be required to take a daily Covid-19 test. It will be tested daily. You will not be required to wear masks in team facilities or while traveling. You will have to wear masks in the facilities and while traveling. You will not need to be quarantined after exposure to Covid-19. You will need to self-quarantine after exposure. No travel restrictions, or restrictions on movement. You will remain under the same travel restrictions as the 2020 season. Weight room activities will be unrestricted for players who have been fully vaccinated. They will be asked to limit their room to 15 people. The team cafeteria may be used without restrictions. Should be socially distancing during meals No eating with teammates There are no restrictions on social, media, marketing or promotional opportunities. Social, media, marketing or promotional opportunities are not permitted. Group steam rooms and saunas can be used as usual. No use of the steam room or sauna is allowed. May eat with vaccinated family members and friends while the team is traveling. Required to stay in team hotel for meals. You may not eat in restaurants. It is not possible to interact with non-team members while traveling.

The NFL and NFL decision comes after the team’s attempts to motivate more players to get vaccinated failed to make an impact. While many teams are claiming 100 percent of their front offices, and support staff completely vaccinated against the virus, player numbers are woefully behind, estimated to be less than 50 percent at the league level.

These last guidelines reserve the ability for players to have freedom of choice when it comes to vaccination, but not the privilege of being free from the consequences. NFL players unanimously granted the NFLPA the right to bargain on their behalf when it came to medical and disciplinary guidelines under the 2020 NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Now vaccinated players will have to decide whether staying vaccinated is worth the increased restrictions they face in the 2021 season as a result.
