Nearly 900 people received doses of the expired COVID-19 vaccine at the Times Square vaccination site this month, and 899 people received doses of the Pfizer vaccine at the former NFL Experience building in Times Square between June 5, health officials said Tuesday. New York City Health said a June 10 date for another dose of Pfizer should be scheduled as soon as possible, as the salesperson running the picks in Times Square has been replaced.
Health officials said Tuesday that nearly 900 people received their expired COVID-19 vaccine doses at the Times Square vaccination site this month.
The New York City Department of Health said that 899 people who received doses of the Pfizer vaccine at the former NFL Experience building in Times Square between June 5 and June 10 should schedule another dose of Pfizer as soon as possible. These Pfizer vaccine shots seem to have been left in the freezer for too long.
The location on Seventh Avenue between 47th and 48th Streets was originally established for Broadway workers, although it is now open to all without the need for appointments.
ATC Vaccination Services, the company that administered the injections under contract to the city, said in a statement: “We apologize for the inconvenience to those receiving the respective vaccine package and want people to know first and foremost that we have been advised of the existence of no risk from the vaccine they received.”
The seller who manages the footage at Times Square has since been replaced. The city also said there was “no risk to patient safety,” and that only re-injections were being done “to ensure that individuals were fully protected.”
Health Department spokesman Patrick Galaho said those who received the expired doses “received emails and phone calls, and messages are being sent to make sure they are aware of the situation.” The department said affected individuals can get another dose of the vaccine anywhere, as long as it’s from a Pfizer syringe.
