DETROIT — The number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in Michigan rose to 893,164 as of Friday, including 19,612 deaths, state officials reported.
Friday’s update includes a total of 162 new cases and 14 additional deaths. On Thursday, the state recorded 893,000 of the total infections, including 19,598 deaths
Testing was steady around 20,000 diagnostic tests reported per day on average, with a 7-day positive rate of less than 1.5% as of Thursday, the lowest on record. The number of hospitalizations has decreased over the past several weeks, and is now at its lowest level since July 2020.
The state’s 7-day moving average of daily cases was 176 on Friday — the lowest level since June 2020. The 7-day average of deaths was 17 on Friday, the lowest since March. The state’s death rate is 2.2%. The state also reported “active cases,” which were listed at 21,600 on Friday.

Michigan has reported more than 8.7 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered as of Thursday, with 60.8% of the +16 population having received at least one dose while 52.2% of the population over 16 is considered fully vaccinated.
According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 33.5 million cases have been reported in the United States, with more than 600,900 deaths from the virus reported. Globally, more than 2.5 billion doses of vaccine have been administered, including more than 314 million doses in the United States alone.
Worldwide, more than 177 million people have been confirmed infected and more than 3.8 million have died, according to Johns Hopkins University. The real numbers are certainly much higher, due to limited testing, the different ways states count the dead, and deliberate under-reporting by some governments.
