Joel Embiid and Seth Curry express his frustration with taking office after the win

The Philadelphia 76ers built their way to a 104-99 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday to keep their season alive. It was an impressive display for a team that had just made massive progress in both Game 4 and Game 5 and the Sixers were able to battle it all out in order to force a Game of 7.

That win came with some bumps and bruises along the way. There was a lot of physical play on both sides in this aspect and there was obviously going to be a lot of confusion from the jump.

Tobias Harris and Ben Simmons were called up for two fouls each in the first quarter and had to come off the ground early. Joel Embiid also made two early fouls and was not happy with the referee after the win.

“I told them they had to call it both ways,” Embiid said. “We had a group of guys, whether it was Ben or Tobias, in bad trouble. I just felt like he wasn’t called in both ways, especially because of the minimal contact their guard gets.”

Embiid was referring to Hawks star Trae Young who has historically had plenty of fouls en route, but only attempted five free throws on Friday. The Sixers didn’t get a free throw attempt from the start of the match until the fourth quarter, but Young didn’t get many calls to go his way in this match.

“When it comes to us, we don’t get the same,” Embiid added. “I just want to call it both ways. If we’re not going to shoot anything at their guards, they call me the same when I touch.”

The final foul score on Friday was 24 fouls for the Sixers and 22 fouls for the Hawks. While Embiid expresses frustration over his personal calls, it wasn’t as if the Sixers had been called out for much more mistakes than Atlanta had. Sure, one could suggest that the Hawks made a willful foul late to get a foul total of 22, but even at halftime, the Sixers were called to nine fouls compared to the Hawks’ eight.

The only real difference came in the third quarter when Philadelphia was called up to six fouls compared to just one for Atlanta.

Seth Curry took a few bumps from the Hawks as he went up to take pictures, and also expressed a bit of frustration with his ending that he hadn’t received an explanation for the lack of contact.

They don’t explain anything,” said Carey. “I would like an explanation and get the same calls from both parties, but they don’t explain anything. Just try to play by calling as much as possible. Sometimes you had to play through a lot of ordeals to win and that’s what we did as a team tonight.”

The Sixers will now head home to host these Falcons in Game 7 of the Winner Take All at Wells Fargo Center on Sunday.
