preview
After eight games on the way to kick-off Austin FC’s inaugural MLS season, the club is finally getting a chance to play in front of their home fans at Q2 Stadium. Austin FC’s first home game comes three days after the US women’s team beat Nigeria, 2-0, in the first-ever match in Q2 Stadium history.
Austin FC enters the game with a back-to-back tie against the two best teams in the Western Conference: Seattle Sounders and Sporting Kansas City. Cecilia Dominguez scored his third goal of the season in the first half against Sporting KC who leads the team. Defensively, goalkeeper Brad Stover stood tall in goal, making a number of notable saves. Stuver officially finished off scoring nine career-high saves on the day.
San Jose enters the match in a four-game losing streak, including losing both Seattle and Sporting KC. Austin FC coach Josh Wolff told KVUE on the VerdeVUE Pod, however, that the Earthquakes are challenging in that they play man-to-man and “it looks awkward on the outside, but it gets very difficult to navigate.” You can listen to the full conversation on KVUE’s YouTube page.
The National Anthem will be sung by Aaron Stevens, Austin-based singer-songwriter and guitarist.
In celebration of Juneteenth, American singer-songwriter and guitarist Jackie Vinson of Austin, Texas will perform the black national anthem, “Lift Up Every Sound and Sing.”
