Authorities said a suspect was shot on Saturday after a police officer opened fire near the Jonteenth motorcade in Flint, Michigan.

Michigan State Police said in a statement that the suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken to hospital after the shooting, and the officer was unhurt.

I waited two hours for the Juneteenth motorcade on Saginaw Street only to discover it was interrupted by a gunfire less than a mile away.

We must do better than Flint.

NBC affiliate WEYI reports in Saginaw that the afternoon confrontation between a motorist and a Flint police officer took place near the Juneteenth Champions Parade. Authorities said the suspect opened fire first.

A mobile phone video reviewed by NBC News and verified by police as showing part of the shooting captures an officer pointing a gun at a parked car and saying, “Let me see your hands. Hands up.”

The officer opened fire, and the car moved forward. The officer got on his knees and appeared to be in emotional distress while another officer appeared to console him. It was not clear what happened in the moments before the video was recorded.

State police said the suspect arrived at a “passage point” near the parade and opened fire on an officer. WEYI reported that the display path has been changed.
