The deputy’s wife was shot in the leg and is “fine,” according to Wiener, and his daughter-in-law was shot in the arm. She required surgery and is in stable condition.

There is no known motive for the shooting and an investigation is underway.

“We don’t know anything, what was the motive behind this, if he was targeted or what, all we know is that he was stormed,” he added. Wiener said.

The deputy exchanged fire with the suspect, leaving behind a trail of blood. A large police presence gathered in front of the compound on Sunday morning, where the shooting took place, as the search for the suspect continued.

“Anytime a citizen of Houston is shot, let alone the family of a deputy or an officer, it’s something we take very seriously, but a lot of investigations have to go on with him,” Viner said.
