2021 WWE Hell in a Cell Results, Summary, Scores: Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre go to war in an awesome main event

[ad_1]

The brutal match between WWE Champion Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre was not only the main event of Sunday’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view but also the highlight of the show.

The championship match between Lashley and McIntyre inside Hell in a Cell was one of many from the event that exceeded expectations. With very few low points, the show provided near-constant entertainment from the in-cell PPV opening match between Bianca Belair and Bayley for the Belair Women’s Championship on SmackDown to the aforementioned WWE Championship match.

WWE is preparing a big push over the coming months to lead August’s SummerSlam event, which could serve as a WWE highlight of the year as the show returns to touring with live audiences.

CBS Sports has been with you throughout the event, providing updates and highlights as the event begins in the live blog below.

2021 WWE Hell in a Cell results, scores

Mandy Rose vs. Natalya: The match started with some extended stretch of chain wrestling before Rose decided to ramp up the intensity by hitting Natalya’s throat with ropes and attacking with blows. Rose went to get a few quick wraps before using her legs for body scissors around Natalia’s waist. Natalya returned with a series of attack and one kick seated for two counts. Natalia eventually managed to keep her upper hand long enough to lock up the sniper until the very end. Rose continues to improve as a talent in the ring, but this falls solidly into the relatively relative starting group. Natalia Dave. Mandy Rose by submission. B-grade

SmackDown Women’s Championship – Bianca Blair (c) vs. Bayley (Hell in a Dungeon): She attacked Bayley early and brought a chair into the equation but missed out on the first swing, allowing Blair to have a bit of a quick fall. Beller swung her braid on the chair a few times after Bayley grabbed her again, but found herself on the defensive again after she shoved her shoulder into the center of the loop. Bayley kept the attack focused on the arm before plunging into the steel steps of the ring. Bayley interrupted Beller’s return attempt by biting Champion on the arm. Bailey finally got things done when she made Bayley push to hang a pair of double kendo sticks between the ring and the cell, and hit a spine to push Bayley through the sticks.

Bailey returned by tying Belair’s hair to a steel chair on which the opponent was sitting. Bailey was eventually dragged into the same chair before Belair tied her hair around Bailey’s wrist and pulled her around the cell, using kendo sticks and Bailey’s skin into the cell walls. Bailey begged the referee to let her walk out of the dungeon without any effect while Belair watched her laugh. Bailey brought a ladder to the ring and used it to sandwich the Belair and hit the rose plant. The ladder will lead to the end where Belair reclaims his place and hits a running guard on Bayley at the top of the ladder and then hits the kiss of death on the open ladder to install. Good stuff, although perhaps a little less than some lofty expectations given Belair’s incredible athleticism and Bayley’s experience inside Hell in a Cell. Bianca Belair def. Bayley via installation to retain the title. Grade: B +

Cesaro vs. Seth Rollins: Rollins attacked Cesaro as he entered, but Cesaro kept jumping once the match started, hitting a bodily object and a big back before hitting a shoe to send Rollins to the ground. Rollins used a thumb in the eye to put Cesaro on the defensive and open it up to DDT. The Cesaro deadlift suplex resulted in Rollins having to dump Cesaro out with a back and knee jump for two counts. Cesaro returned, removed Rollins’ gauntlet and shoved it into Rollins’ mouth before continuing his attack. Rollins hit the hawk’s arrow for two counts and followed him up with another fall shortly after a kick in the back of Cesaro’s head. When Rollins couldn’t get the job done, Cesaro returned with a big Cesaro swing before the sniper locked in. When Rollins reached for the ropes to break control, Cesaro turned things around before returning to the sniper after Rollins attempted to return to the fixture. Cesaro stomped on Rollins’ arm when he tried to reach the ropes again, but Rollins managed to sharpen it for a small package for the win. The ending was a little strange, but this was the highly anticipated match between Rollins and Cesaro, two of the best in-ring rivals on WWE’s roster. Defeated Seth Rollins. Cesaro via installation. B degree

Alexa Bliss vs. Shayna Baszler: Bliss quietly walked forward while Baszler hesitated to engage until Reginald caused a distraction in the ringside, allowing Baszler to direct her attack with a few blows. Bliss continued to alternate between anger and happiness as Pazler continued to attack with kicks, punches, and joint locks. While on her wrist, Bliss yelled at Baszler to look at her and Baszler released his fist as soon as she had it. This allowed Bliss to unleash a wave of attack and DDT for a close fall. Then Bliss stared at Nia Jax in the ring, forcing Jax to reverse her moves and slap Reginald with her magic. Then Bliss has a sister Abigail and a quirky Bliss to win. Nothing in this Bliss character works and this remains a poor use for all involved. Alexa Bliss def. Shayna Baszler via installation. Grade: D

Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn: Owens took the fight straight to Zayn to start the match, but Zayn used some bluffing tactics to roll offensively until he failed to overpower Owens, allowing Owens to run back before a cannon shot into the corner. Number two. After attacking Owens’ arm and pushing his throat – still affected by Captain Aziz’s Nigerian screw – into the ropes, Zayn hit a big dive over the top rope on Owens from the outside. When the referee checked Owens’ arm, Zane ran forward with a shoe. Owens fought with a clothesline on the outside and tried Swanton from the arena but Zane got on his knees to respond and hit a blue thunder bomb in the ring for a close fall. Owens fought one-armed before Zayn throws a large Suplex bomber to face the surprise of another nearby fall. As the excitement spilled out, Owens hit a stunning and barely beat Zane out of ten to stay alive. With Zayn bleeding from the mouth, the two exchanged punches and crunched their knees. Zane hit a knee on Owens’ back, and Owens sent his throat first to the lower rope. Zane slams, and Helluva hits Kick for the win. This was a good physical wrestling with a good storyline that played through Owens’ toughness that wasn’t enough to overcome the damage done to his body. Sami Zayn defeated. Kevin Owens via installation. Grade: B +

RAW Women’s Championship – Rhea Ripley (C) vs. Charlotte Flair: Flair attacked Ripley before the match actually started and then hits a big boot almost immediately after the opening bell. Flair kept Ripley on the defensive, dominating early action while taunting the champ. Ripley’s comeback included a big kick off the top rope before closing in with a high angled Texas Clover before Flair fired her into the rope. Flair follows with Natural Selection and an attempt to use the middle rope to press the pin. Flair went for a top-rope moon jump but landed on her feet and adjusted to the standing moon dome after Ripley tried to launch out of the way, resulting in another nearby fall. Ripley, now dealing with an injured leg from Flair’s center attack, managed to hit the Superplex for two counts as the momentum continued to swing wildly. Flair went for a corner attack but Ripley got out of the way, allowing her to hit Riptide but close to the ropes, allowing Flair to set her foot on the lower rope. Flair got back to working on Ripley’s leg before it locked into figure eight, but Ripley was able to pull herself through the lower rope into the ground to escape. Ripley then pulled off the top of the comment table and hit Flair with her, disqualifying her and allowing Ripley to retain her title. Ripley continued the attack after the bell, eventually placing Flair with another Riptide. This was a pretty good game in a way that was removed by a really questionable finish that looked like he didn’t play Ripley’s position in the match at all. Charlotte Flair defeated. Rhea Ripley by disqualification. Grade: B +

WWE Championship – Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Drew McIntyre (Hell in a Cell): Lashley immediately dives out of the ring to try to pull something from under the ring but McIntyre follows, pushing Lashley’s face into the cell before hitting him in the cell. Wall. Lashley responded, using the ring rungs, but McIntyre lifted him up and shot him into the cell wall before grabbing the ring’s steps and crashing it twice into Lashley’s head. The two big men continued to attack each other outside the ring, with Lashley getting a cut to his arm. When McIntyre set up a table, the MVP slid his wand across the cell, allowing Lashley to get the upper hand again. After Lashley bumped him into the cage and ring position multiple times, McIntyre returned with his own version of Sheamus’ White Noise on the ring steps.

McIntyre continued his dominant stretch before grabbing several chairs and throwing them into the ring, resulting in Lashley’s victory over one. Lashley nearly locked in at Hurt Lock, but McIntyre fended off and hit the sit-down powerbomb twice. Lashley fought back, using McIntyre’s ring steps to repeatedly press McIntyre against the cell wall before helping the MVP trap McIntyre in the corner by sliding his kendo wand across the chain link. Lashley put McIntyre back in the ring and set up a chair before driving McIntyre to him with a pair of flats. Lashley hit McIntyre with a kendo stick several times until McIntyre cornered her with his arm and used a chair before pushing him to the referee, who was knocked out of the ring.

With the referee down, McIntyre hit the Future Shock DDT but there was no one to count. McIntyre asked for a new umpire to enter the dungeon before he sent Lashley out with Claymore. With the cell door open, the MVP pulled the reference from the ring to a rescue. MVP then finds himself trapped inside the hive and on the receiving end of McIntyre’s attack, ending with Claymore. McIntyre was distracted enough to allow Lashley to lock Hurt Lock out of the ring but McIntyre fired himself back through a table to break the hold. Back in the ring, McIntyre lined up another Claymore after using a steel chair to attack Lashley, but Lashley was able to get out of the way and send McIntyre across a ringside table. McIntyre saved a spear from Lashley and hit another futuristic shock and went to Claymore only to have the MVP get his leg up to set up Lashley for the lap-up to steal the win. Good, violent stuff from a couple of bruises and a refreshed version of Hell in a Cell doesn’t require a major bump from the top or side of the cage, even if it’s another match of the night with an odd ending. Fortunately, Lashley can now move on from McIntyre. Bobby Lashley defeated. Drew McIntyre via pinning to retain the title. Grade: A-
