“I just wanted to take a quick moment and say I’m gay,” he said. “I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but I finally feel comfortable getting it off my chest. I truly have the best life, the best family, friends, and a job any man could ask for.
“I’m a very private person so I hope you guys know I’m not doing this for the attention. I just think acting and seeing are very important. I really hope one day, videos like this will come out and all the process isn’t necessary, but until then I’ll make I do my best and do my best to cultivate a culture of acceptance and empathy.”
RAIDERS’ Karl Nesib declared he’s gay: ‘I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now’
The announcement sparked a lot of backlash across the league.
Nesib is the first active NFL player to come out as gay. Several players revealed their post-career trends, while Michael Sam was on the Rams’ roster for a brief period in 2014 but never appeared in a regular season game.
Nesib, 28, played 14 games for the Raiders last season. He had 28 treatments and 2.5 bags.
