This week has seen an interesting mix of news and rumors, led by a new report from Ming-Chi Kuo outlining some of his predictions for the 2022 iPhone models.
We’ve also seen the second beta of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, a claim that Apple has already halted iPhone 12 mini production amid slow sales, and a report that Apple is cracking down on some notable leakers, so read on for details on all of these stories and more. !
iPhone 14 may feature Touch ID at the bottom of the screen
Apple may include an under-screen version of Touch ID on some “iPhone 14” models in 2022, according to trusted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, providing users with an alternative to Face ID.
In an extensive research note this week, Kuo added that a new iPhone SE will be released in the first half of 2022 with 5G support and other new features, while maintaining budget. Kuo also expects a 48-megapixel camera on some high-end iPhones next year.
For this year’s dummy iPhone 13 models came out this week, providing a closer look at the rumored design changes.
Apple develops a whole new type of MacBook Air
Apple is working on an all-new, high-end version of the MacBook Air for release later this year, according to recent reports.
The new MacBook Air will likely feature a faster iteration of Apple’s custom M1 chip for ultra-fast performance in a lightweight design. The current base model of the MacBook Air with the M1 chip outperforms the 16-inch Intel-based MacBook Pro that has been hit in the benchmarks.
Two and a half weeks after the release of the first beta of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 after the WWDC keynote, this week Apple has provided developers with the second beta. Parallel beta updates for watchOS 8 and tvOS 15 have also been released, but we haven’t yet seen the second beta of macOS Monterey.
The second beta of iOS and iPadOS 15 fixes a number of bugs, and also introduces some new features that were not present in the first betas, including initial support for the SharePlay function in FaceTime and the ability for apps to request access to additional RAM to improve the performance.
Check out our Stories article for more information about changes in second betas, and if you’re not a registered Apple developer but want to try out upcoming OS versions before they officially launch in the fall, Apple should release the initial public betas soon.
