Namibia earthquake reverberates in North Carolina

According to the Geosciences Council of South Africa, the 4.1-magnitude seismic event struck an area more than 100 kilometers from Karasberg, Namibia just before 06:00 a.m. on Sunday (June 27). Although the epicenter was in Namibia, retired police officer Fatalini Fanuel Kakuyu says he felt the tremors inside his home in Keimoes in the Northern Cape.

Kakuiyu tells OFM News that the windows in the room he was in when the earthquake struck, started to buzz, which scared him so badly. He says no real damage has been reported on his part, but residents near Ugrapis Falls have been told they felt the tremors more. The depth of the seismic event was recorded as 10 km.

When comparing the data on the Earth Science Council website, one can see that it is the strongest earthquake that has been recorded in the country since mid-February. This has not been confirmed and was drawn from seismic events recorded on the site.

This comes after a 2.2-magnitude earthquake was reported in Postmasburg, in the Northern Cape in late May 2021, which frightened many. It has not been determined whether the residents of Postmasburg felt tremors from this recent seismic event.
