This $200 Dell webcam uses a Sony low-light sensor

Working from home has exacerbated the shortcomings of the laptop’s built-in cameras. Most devices ship with a 720p or 1080p camera, which means you have to buy a separate webcam if you want higher quality video — or resort to a compatible action camera or DSLR, if you own one. Well, you now have another 4K webcam to choose from for video calling, virtual events or live streaming. Dell launches a $200 UltraSharp webcam capable of recording 4K footage at up to 30 frames per second.

Like the Razer Kiyo Pro at a similar price, the 8.3 MP Dell camera also features a Sony Starvis sensor (only this is 4K) typically used in security cameras. The technology promises lifelike results even in low-light conditions, while an optional HDR mode balances colors at brighter settings.

Dell has also added some features that should make the webcam more versatile for streaming platforms and phone callers. You can choose from three preset fields of view: the default 90-degree shot to show more of the background, 78-degree view that moves a little closer to you and a narrow 65-degree angle shot to take close-ups of your face.

There’s also 5x digital zoom and an AI auto-framing feature that keeps you centered in the frame even when you’re on the move. The latter is already available on many smart displays and video chat devices, including Amazon’s Echo Show 10, Portal’s collection, and even the latest iPad Pro.

The most prevalent webcam feature included here is the Privacy Shutter Hood, which lets you snap the hood over the lens when you want to stay hidden. Plus, you can clip the cover magnetically behind the webcam so you don’t misplace it. Dell’s camera is also certified for Microsoft Teams and Zoom, which means that it has been tested to prove that it works well with these video chat services. Like the older 4K Brio, it also supports Windows Hello authentication. UltraSharp webcam is available worldwide now.
