New York’s General Manager, Brian Cashman, spoke about the state of the Yankees’ suffering

NEW YORK—Yankees general manager Brian Cashman doesn’t outperform the Bronx bombers.

“We’re miserable right now,” Cashman said before Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels at Yankee Stadium. “As bad as we can be.”

However, for the third time this season, Cashman provided support behind coach Aaron Boone and coaching staff.

“That’s not an Aaron Boone problem,” Cashman said. “This is not the coaching staff’s problem.”

Cashman shifted the blame away from Boone toward himself.

It’s easy from my seat to say, ‘Let me throw something outside just to please the crowd. “It’s hard to stick with what you have because you believe in it.” “These people care. They work hard. They’re really good at what they do. We don’t get results. I’m the head of baseball operations. This concerns me more than them.”

The Yankees are coming off their fourth straight loss, including a three-game sweep by the Boston Red Sox and a Monday night loss to the Angels. The Yankees 40-38 are fourth in the American Eastern League, 7 1/2 games behind the first-placed Red Sox. Cashman said the team could be a seller rather than a buyer on the trade deadline if their performance fails to turn in.

Cashman said owner Hal Steinbrenner has not been happy with the team’s struggles so far this year. The Yankees currently boast the second-largest payroll in the sport at $142,556,795 behind the most-spent Los Angeles Dodgers at $215,958,616.

“Everyone is frustrated with this,” Cashman said. “Anyone who cares about that privilege, nobody cares more than the owner because they invested in it. It’s a legacy, and he doesn’t get what he deserved and what he paid for. So he’s frustrated too.”
