Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokonmo had to leave Game 4 against the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night after suffering a severely stretched left knee during the third quarter of the competition. The injury occurred when Antetokounmpo stepped up to block an alley attempt by Clint Capella. Antetokounmpo landed hard on his left leg and injured his knee in the process.
You can watch the play where the injury occurred below:
Antetokounmpo was on the field for several moments afterward, and was eventually helped back into the Milwaukee locker room. He returned to the bench in Milwaukee for a brief period during the third quarter, but was back in the locker room again a few moments later. He was eventually disqualified for the remainder of the match due to left knee hyperextension. He is expected to undergo an MRI on Wednesday, and more will be known about the severity of his injury at that point.
Before exiting the match, Antetokounmpo scored 14 points and 8 rebounds in 24 minutes of action. Once he fell, the Hawks quickly withdrew the Bucks and took a 110-88 win until the series reached two games each. The fifth game of the series will be held on Thursday evening.
At this point, Antetokounmpo’s status is not known for the rest of the series. The Bucks only hope the injury is worse than it really is.
