Trump didn’t mention DeSantis at the Florida Rally

Former President Donald Trump hit all the high notes at his second campaign style rally since leaving the White House.

Trump, who was on trial at the Sarasota fairgrounds in southwest Florida before an enthusiastic and raucous crowd, targeted his successor, President Biden, as he highlighted issues of crime and immigration. Trump accused “our streets are being overrun by vicious thugs and bloodthirsty criminals,” claiming that “our borders are being erased before our eyes.”

A week after holding his first presidential rally in Ohio, Trump Saturday night also highlighted the culture wars, arguing that “critical race theory is being pushed down the throats of our children into the ranks of our military.” He focused on the political battle over transgender rights, asserting that “men are allowed to play women’s sports, so unfair, so crazy.”

He also sparked again a possible presidential run in 2024 to try to get back to the White House, saying “we are looking at the election, more than looking at it,” to cheers from the crowd.

The former president attacked New York City attorneys general for their move Thursday to indict the Trump Organization and its chief financial officer on charges of tax fraud and conspiracy, calling them “Appointment misconduct.”

But there was one glaring omission from the former president’s nearly 90-minute speech in the Sunshine State — he didn’t mention his ally and fellow Republican — Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

While he was shouting and highlighting many of his political allies in Florida, Trump remained quiet about DeSantis, who did not attend the rally. While Trump was in Sarasota, the governor resided in Surfside, on Florida’s Atlantic coast, where he attended services for victims of the horrific condominium collapse.

The governor’s office said DeSantis wanted to attend the rally but decided, amid the tragedy at Surfside and a hurricane looming toward Florida, not to attend the rally.

“He spoke with President Trump, who agreed it was the right decision, because the governor’s duty is to be on Surfside,” DeSantis press secretary Christina Buchou said.

In an interview with Newsmax prior to the rally, Trump said he had asked the governor not to attend.

DeSantis — the conservative congressman who was narrowly elected governor of Florida in 2018 thanks in part to Trump’s support — has seen his popularity soar among Republican voters in Florida and across the country, thanks in large part to his administration of his state amid the coronavirus pandemic. And his anti-COVID restrictions pushed him back.

This sparked speculation about possible national ambitions and the 2024 Republican presidential nomination run by DeSantis. DeSantis recently outperformed Trump in a 2024 poll conducted at a conservative rally in Colorado. That could eventually put the two allies on a potential collision course.

TRUMP, GOP FRONT-RUNNER 2024, LOOKS BACK TO 2020

DeSantis and his political team quickly played down speculation about any tension between the governor and the former president.

Helen Aguirre Ferret, the Florida Republican Party executive who previously served as the governor’s director of communications, strongly opposed a report Thursday that the governor’s office had asked Trump and his team to cancel the rally in the wake of the building. Collapse.

She stressed that “the governor fully supports the rally” and stressed that it is “absolutely untrue that there is a rift” between DeSantis and Trump.

Trump speaking at CPAC

The former president is likely to once again capture the national spotlight next weekend as he is the featured speaker on Sunday, July 12, the final day of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) being held in Dallas, Texas.

Trump gave his first post-presidential speech in late February while speaking at the CPAC in Orlando, Florida.

The former president was also in the headlines last week, collaborating with Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

Naim sends National Guard forces to the border

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem announced last week that it would send 50 National Guard soldiers from her state to Texas to help “secure” the border.

Critics view Noam, a conservative politician and ally of the former president, as a potential candidate for hope for the White House in 2024.

But the governor’s move drew more attention to reports — confirmed by her office — that the deployment of the Texas Guard was funded by a Republican nonprofit.

Scott dance card is filled withمتلئ

Critics also see Senator Rick Scott, chairman of the Republican Senate National Committee, as a possible presidential challenger to the Republican Party in 2024.

Two announcements over the past week will lead to more speculation about the former Florida governor.

Polk County, Iowa’s Republican Party, announced that Scott will deliver a Lincoln Dinner on July 31. This will be Scott’s second stop this year in Iowa, the state whose caucuses begin the presidential nomination calendar.

Belknap County, New Hampshire’s Republican Party, alerted the senator to the August 21 fundraiser. For a century, New Hampshire held its first primaries in the race for the White House, and over the past 50 years it has ranked second in the nomination table after Iowa.

Christie plans to “rescue” the Republicans

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who ran for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination and is considering another bid in 2024, will release a new book on November 16.

Title: “The Republican Rescue: Saving the Party from Truth Deniers, Conspiracy Theorists, and the Dangerous Policies of Joe Biden.”

Threshold, the conservative arm of publisher Simon and Schuster, is releasing the book.

Cotton and Grassley does exercise

Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas, another potential Republican presidential candidate, was in Iowa last week to help the state’s Republican Party raise funds.

Cotton, an Iraq War veteran, teamed up at an event at the Sioux Center with 87-year-old Senator Chuck Grassley, who has yet to announce whether he will run for re-election next year.

Although no news was released for 2022 or 2024 at the event, the two senators attracted attention for their participation in a pushup competition.

While on stage at the event, Grassley encouraged Cotton to join him and try 22 push-ups, in honor of the 22 veterans who average suicide every day, he said.

“If he [Cotton] I’m going to do 22 push-ups,” Grassley said in front of nearly 200 yuan.

Well, I’m 87, so you should give me a little leeway,” Grassley said.

The two then did 22 head-to-head push-ups as counted by the state’s other Republican senator, Joni Earnest, 50.
